General Advice

General Advice

What do I do if I want to buy at auction?
If you wish to buy in person you will be required to register. You will be asked to supply your name, address and telephone number with some form of identification. We advise all our clients to view the lots, before bidding, to satisfy themselves as to the condition of the items, also what is contained within the lot. Catalogues are available

What can I do if I can't get to the auction?
If you are unable to attend or stay for the whole of the auction, we are happy to undertake a commission bid for you. This means that we act as your representative to secure an item for you at the lowest price, taking into account any reserves and the bidding in the room.

Will I end up with a lot if I sneeze?
Don't worry about sneezing or coughing - auctioneers are trained to indentify serious bids, so relax and enjoy the experience - you won't end up with something you didn't bid for!

What do I pay?
If you are a successful bidder the price you pay is the amount at which the hammer fell for the lot, plus a buyer's premium and VAT on the premium. e.g. A hammer price of £100 with a 14% buyers premium becomes £114, then we need to add VAT on the premium giving an invoice total of £116.10. Certain goods are sold subject to VAT on the hammer price in addition to the buyer's premium, the catalogue will be marked and the auctioneer will announce the fact when offering the lot in the sale.
